Fields and dimensions

Someone asked me to write about mind over matter. Okay. But in order to understand mind over matter we need to understand fields and dimensions, or rather, dimensions and fields. Once you understand what dimensions and fields are then you should be able to understand something about mind over matter.

What are dimensions?

We start with the basic principle. A field is a space. In mysticism 'the field' refers to space in general, or the universe. Space defines relationship. But see we cannot perceive space without a (physical) point or frame of reference. Likewise we cannot perceive consciousness without a (physical) frame of reference.

A dimension is essentially a physical frame of reference from which we understand reality, or space (or a field). This is all you need to understand and remember - a dimension is a physical reference point to understand a relationship or which defines space or reality. Dimensions therefore divide up fields or space.

The simplest example of a dimension is a horizontal line. The line is the dimension, and on either side you have space or a field. You could also have a point or say a location. Say for example we could arrange to meet in Trafalgar Square. But we would still not be able to meet because you only have one dimension as a reference point. We would need to add another dimension, say a date and time, next Saturday at 2pm, to make it possible for us to be able to meet.

But see Trafalgar Square is still a large public space so we would need to add additional dimensions to break down the space. So I suggest we meet at the base of Nelson's Column which is roughly in the centre of Trafalgar Square. This would give you an additional reference point from which you can work out the other three dimensions to be able to find me.

So as we can see a dimension is a physical reference point which enables us to break down and perceive space, relationship, and fields.

Area and volume

Okay so if you take a horizontal line and intersect it with a vertical line you have two dimensions, which if you add another horizontal line and another vertical line you have a square, a shape, and two dimensional reality. Any area or shape is two dimensional reality because you break up a field to have an inside and an outside. A top and a bottom.

But if you add another dimension or line to create basic three dimensional reality you also have volume and space or a field enclosed by dimensions. If you take a look around you then you should find your basic three dimensional reality with three physical dimensions and fields or space. Take for example your home. Inside your home is a field or space, and outside your home is another field or more space.

This brings us to scale, which is essentially the relationship between dimensions and fields. This is usually constant. Think of a cardboard box and a house. A room and a house. An atom with protons and electrons whizzing round a nucleus has the same relationship as a moon whizzing round a planet or a galaxy swirling round a black hole. The only variable is the scale. Note that scale is relative to both dimension and field.

The fourth dimension

Now this is where we get into mind over matter. From a human perspective basic reality is three dimensional and this is what gives us a basic understanding of form and space from which we perceive and conceive our physical reality.

But actual reality is in fact multi-dimensional which means that there are more than just three dimensions. Indeed time is believed by some to be the fourth dimension. But it's not the only fourth dimension out there.

Indeed let's say you want to get from Baker Street, which is an actual street in London, to Trafalgar Square. If you restrict yourself to three dimensions you could of course walk from Baker Street to Trafalgar Square. You could also catch a bus from Baker Street to Trafalgar Square. But see you could also transcend your three dimensional reality and travel by Underground, taking an underground railway to Trafalgar Square. Similarly if you didn't want to get to Trafalgar Square from Baker Street, but instead Times Square in New York, you could transcend your three dimensional reality and take a flight from London Heathrow airport to New York JFK.

So let's try another example. Imagine you're serving life in prison. You're locked up in a cell. You cannot leave your cell and your three dimensional reality. Not without a fourth dimension and using mind over matter. You can use memory and take your mind back to a time when you weren't in prison or try and conceptualize or imagine a future when you are no longer in prison. But these only use the space of the mind but not change the field you are in at the present moment in time, or the here and now. You're still in prison.

You could wait until you're released from prison, which once again requires the use of an additional dimension, i.e. the fourth dimension (time), to change your relationship within the field.

This is what mind over matter is about. It's not about freaky, swirly beliefs, it's about changing dimensions to change a field be it space, relationship, or an environment. If you understand this you understand a little above beginner level of magic. This is what magic is about - changing fields through altering, changing or transcending dimensions. In order to connect one field to another, e.g. your mind to the field or your wider environment, you have to change a dimension or transcend it.

The fifth dimension

Okay so we're going to start here with a practical exercise. Hold your hand up in front of your face with your palm flat and your fingers vertical. Now make a fist with your hand. What you have done is changed both field and dimensions using another dimension - the fifth dimension.

This is all still mind over matter. All you have done is to add a dimension to bring change to a field and other dimensions.

This brings us to the principle of mind over matter. The relationship between dimension and field (space) is constant. Therefore if you add, change or transcend a dimension the change will be reflected in the other dimensions and also the fields. This gives us five dimensions, three which are physical, and two which are meta-physical:

  • physical mass or matter
  • physical expression, thought, emotion, feeling
  • physical relationship (energy)
  • consciousness/space (mind)
  • Akasha (spirit)

These are the five dimensions of living existence. Keep in mind physical here can be either concrete or abstract, for the dimension is the frame of reference or point of reference. Time has no physical form, it's a concept. But as we understand that time can define a field or measure space, it is often regarded as the fourth dimension.

The fifth dimension becomes important when it comes to magic and the paranormal, because it indicates a field or space in which there is a sensation or an experience across all five dimensions. This experience or sensation is felt not just in a sensory way, but also in an extrasensory way.

Hopefully now I have given you some insight into fields, dimensions and the basic common principles of mind over matter.
