Hurting

Hurting is about the role trauma and suffering plays in our lives and the differences between the two.

'Hurting' is a book about the differences between trauma and suffering which was written by Stella Baker some years ago as a resource for the Qultura community. It's important to understand within the context of this book that prior to developing Qultura, much earlier in her life, she had undergone training in Theravada Buddhism to become a Buddhist shaman and has also gone through the Forest Tradition (living alone with nature isolated from society for an extended period) to become a shaman.

Trauma and suffering are part and parcel of the human experience of life but there is a clear difference between the two. Trauma is natural, karmic based on the solitary force in the universe, which is force, while suffering is cultural and usually arises through an emotional or psychological attachment either to the past or to a future outcome. Letting go of suffering is essential to recover from trauma and start a natural process of healing, growth and recovery.

In this book Stella Baker writes about the different approaches to trauma and suffering from both the Buddhist perspective and also from a Qultura perspective, examining whether the important aspect is the attachment itself or whether it's the division that the attachment creates that creates the suffering. You see if you are attached emotionally and psychologically to a specific outcome or result - which causes the suffering - then generally your mindset can be seen to be traumatic and divisive. But where you seek to connect and understand the process - the relationship between the trauma and its resulting karma - the suffering melts away as you take on a dramatic mindset.

Therefore this book gives you an insight into both Unmind and also the concept of reverse participation in the Qultura community and as such is included here as an additional resource.
